Every year the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association honors a General Manager who demonstrates exemplary customer service, employee relations, community service and a dedication to advancing the lodging industry along the Grand Strand. Walking into the Staybridge Suites Myrtle Beach West guests can immediately sense General Manager Erik Reis’ personal definition of hospitality: “In today’s hotel environment hospitality is more than just taking care of a guest while they are at your hotel. It’s about proactively thinking what they might need during their stay, recognizing them with a little something extra. It’s the personal touch that really sets a hotel apart”. Knowing this it’s easy to see why Reis was named the Myrtle Beach Hotelier of the Year. The fact that the nomination came from his staff made winning the award all the more poignant for Reis. “It really means so much to me that my team was the one that nominated me for this award. We have an unusually long tenure at our hotel with most of our key team members being together for more 5 years. We have a great family atmosphere.”
Running an extended stay property on the Grand Strand requires the ability to multi-task like a juggler. One minute Reis is welcoming a guest, taking a reservation, and seeing what can be done to extend the stay of the guest in suite 113 during a sold out weekend and the next he is analyzing reports for his owners, evaluating a proposed sponsorship deal and handling the negotiation of the contract for Wi-Fi access at the hotel. “At an extended stay hotel, we have a condensed management structure meaning that everyone has to be able to be a master of their position but also understand several others as well. When we hire someone, we are looking for a candidate that has this attitude. No one can say ‘that’s not my job’.” stated Reis.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized by the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association as Hotelier of the year and am incredibly thankful to my entire team for their dedication and support. Leadership is not just about personal achievement rather by how well a team works together towards a common vision. I am happy to accept this award on behalf of my entire team”.
