The umbrellas and chairs that are set up on the beach are rented out by the lifeguards by the day. Generally, you can rent two chairs and an umbrella as a set during the warmer months.
If you plan to surf fish from the beach, piers or out one mile into the ocean then you will need a South Carolina Surf Fishing License. However, many piers such as the Second Avenue Pier have their own license. Anyone fishing from the pier does not need a license but can purchase a pass from the pier. Some piers also have bait that you can purchase and fishing rods that you can rent.
Ask any local and they will tell you their favorite location but our team tends to like an area around 38th Ave North for shells. Shelling is best done after the tide has come in, early in the day or even better after a storm.
Pets are not permitted on beaches in Horry County between 10 am and 5 pm from May 1 through Labor Day. When they are allowed on the beach, they must be on a leash and cleaned up after.
Dolphin sightings can happen any time. Many local companies offer dolphin sighting tours and cruises. Two we can suggest include Calabash Fishing Fleet and Myrtle Beach Watersports.
You can rent beach wheelchairs at specific lifeguard stations.
That is a matter of opinion. What we can tell you is that the most popular time to visit the Grand Strand is during the summer from June to August. It’s the perfect time to cool off in the ocean and relax on the beach listening to the waves. Since it’s the most popular time of the year, expect restaurants, attractions and the beach to be busy.
If you decide to come to Myrtle Beach from September to November, you’ll typically enjoy sixty more days of summer-like weather. Days are still warm but not quite as humid and the ocean is still perfect for sunbathing or a walk on the beach. This time of year, is also hurricane season so you will typically see less crowds. There are also some great festivals at this time of year.
December through February on the Grand Strand is ideal for those who enjoy a slower pace. There are typically no crowds at this time of year, low humidity and balmy temperatures. Leading up to the holidays is a great time to visit the area for the many holiday shows, great shopping and great decorations at Brookgreen Gardens for their Night of a Thousand Candles.
Spring in Myrtle Beach is a great time to come to the area. The weather during this time of year is beautiful. While the water may not be the ideal temperature to swim, the beach is great for lounging in a beach chair or just soaking up some vitamin sea!
